Embracing the Cold

The sun was shining brightly as the wind began to blow. The breeze was cool with a chill in the air that left the smell of winter in the background. Clouds graced the blue sky as birds flew by to their destinations unknown. The leaves on the trees fluttered as the wind blew softly.

Suddenly the atmosphere changed from beautiful and sunny, to dark and gray. Who would have known that Winter was coming early? It turned very cold very fast. The clouds that were fluffy and white were now a dark gray with hints of white. The feeling of Winter enveloped everything. Quietly, snow flurries began to drift from the sky. As they fell to the ground they began sticking. Who would have thought that snow would come so soon? Nevertheless, it was something to see. It was unusual for snow to be falling just as Winter arrived.

Children were happy to see the snow come since they did not have to attend school. Parents still had to go to work, and make arrangements with babysitters to watch their children, but others who could afford daycare took their children there, and those who had older children, they took care of their siblings. Nothing really changed after the snow came except that.

At the end of the day when everyone arrived home from a long days work, they prepared dinner and everyone gathered around the table to eat. Everyone talked about their day, and the children were the happiest of all. No one was upset that Winter had arrived early. No one was upset about the snow. All of the children could not wait to go outside to make snowmen, snow women, and snow angels. Who doesn’t enjoy a snowball fight? Can’t leave out sledding! There are so many fun things they wanted to go outside and do in the snow.
